Wazir Mohammad Akbar Khan Hospital (WMAKH) is the largest teaching hospital in Afghanistan (210 beds), with the largest residency training programs in the country (general surgery, orthopedics, and internal medicine).
It serves as the major referral and trauma center in Afghanistan, with approximately 600 patients admitted, 5000 OPD consultations, and 750 surgical procedures monthly.
The hospital was handed over to the Ministry of Public Health in 2005 after years of renovations by technicians from the Norwegian Red Cross and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
